Not fixed yet! World Sports: Barcelona applied to UEFA for the first away game of the Champions League with no reply yet
Spanish "World Sports" reported that UEFA will send a specialist to Camp Nou on Thursday local time to check the construction progress. As the highest institution of European football, UEFA has independent requirements for hosting the Champions League, which has nothing to do with whether Barcelona obtains the first phase of the city hall license.
Barcelona has applied to UEFA to arrange the first match of the Champions League stage (September 16, 17 or 18) away to fight for a two-week buffer period to ensure that the opening match after the completion of the stadium can be held at the Camp Nou on September 30 or October 1. But UEFA has not answered the team yet.
Unlike La Liga, UEFA rarely offers such flexible arrangements, and everything will depend on the Champions League draw in Monaco on August 28. The schedule will not be announced until August 30.
If the stadium is open in stage 1A, the capacity is only 27,000 people, and only the main stand and some south stands will be opened. However, UEFA requires the opening of side stands, which is mainly due to television broadcast requirements. This will take until the 1B stage, when the stadium can accommodate 45,000 people. The 1C stage will be completed later, and the North Stand will also be open at that time.
Time is tight, and Barcelona must clearly inform UEFA next week that the team's home venue for this season's UEFA Champions League stage. According to regulations, the home court of the Champions League stage must be played on the same stadium. Therefore, if necessary, Barcelona will use the Olympic Stadium as an emergency plan.
