10,000 new seats added! MiTi: Naples government approves €200 million renovation plan for Maradona Stadium

"Gazzetta dello Sport" reported that in order to keep up with the opportunity of co-hosting the 2032 European Cup, the Naples city government has officially approved the renovation plan of the Maradona Stadium. Last Tuesday, the local municipal government adopted 12 points to guide the design of the renovation project.

The renovated Maradona Stadium is expected to add 10,000 seats, add sky boxes and VIP seats, and build a "Maradona Experience Museum". The key change is the removal of the existing athletics track, which will shorten the distance between the stands and the pitch from the current average of 30 meters to 7 to 10 meters.

The project also includes renovation or reconstruction of the roof, plans to install solar panels and a rainwater recycling system, improve barrier-free facilities, evacuation routes, medical services, and surrounding traffic and parking, restore 26 underground parking spaces and motorcycle spaces, and study noise reduction measures. In addition, approximately 30,000 square meters of catering and commercial areas will be planned.

The estimated cost of the entire renovation project is at least 200 million euros, which is expected to be borne by the finance of the Campania region. Regional President DeLuca has previously promoted the renovation of the Arecchi Stadium in Salerno, and the mayor of Salerno has also written to Italian Football Association President Gravina to bid for the European Cup.
