6 teams compete for two places, FIFA official: World Cup qualifying play-offs will be held in Mexico

FIFA officially announced that the World Cup qualifying play-offs will be held in Guadalajara and Monterrey, Mexico, from March 23 to 31, 2026. Stadiums in the two cities will host six national teams from five continental football federations vying for the final two qualifying spots. The U.S.-Canada-Mexico World Cup will be the first World Cup event involving 48 teams, and the main match will be held in three months.

The teams participating in the World Cup qualifying play-offs include the Iraqi team representing the Asian Football Confederation, the Democratic Republic of the Congo from the African Football Confederation, the Jamaican team and the Suriname team from the North, Central and Caribbean Football Confederation, the Bolivia team from the South American Football Confederation, and the New Caledonia team from the Oceania Football Confederation. In addition, Guadalajara Stadium will host four group matches in the World Cup, while Monterrey Stadium will host three group matches and one 1/32 final.
